Bald Eagle Nest – Central Iowa

Denton Homes Iowa is a custom home building company located in the middle of the heartland. We have several developments and parcels of land in our portfolio. This is not the only eagle nest on our properties, but this is the only one with a live cam. Meet The Majestics.

We've have been watching this pair for a couple of years now. Along the way we've talked to many people who have been watching them for much longer. We believe this is the 7th or 8th year for the nest and for this eagle pair.

The nest is located just west of Des Moines in central Iowa on one of our properties. There is a creek that winds its way through the wooded area just below the nest. Lots of woodland animals, including deer are sometimes seen in camera view. The Majestics fish in the two large bodies of water nearby.

There is occasionally audio on the live stream. It's windy on the prairie, so it's necessary to keep the audio off at times. The best times for audio are early weekend mornings.

As many of you know, we are custom home builders. We have several developments and parcels of land in our portfolio. In fact, this is not the only eagle nest on our properties. This is the only one with a live cam. Mr. Denton is an outdoorsman with a great love of nature. When he asked his team to setup the eagle cam and live stream for this season, we went to work. This is the second season for our first eagle cam and live stream. While the team experts are well versed in all aspects of the technology — both in the camera set up and the digital technology — we continue to learn about streaming eagle watching. A few members of the team and Mr and Mrs Denton have been watching eagles for years. But not necessarily watching eagle cams and live streams. After we went live on March 8, 2019, that changed because we have all been absorbed by the activity and the grandeur of the eagles at this close range and by the knowledge and willingness to share of the people who are joining in the live chat. We continue to learn from you every day. Below are some highlights from 2019,

March 10 – Two eggs laid. The first at 4:17pm and the second egg was seen at 11:29pm. The experts kindly told us that was impossible -- the eggs need 50-70 hours in the oviduct and therefore are laid a couple of days apart. Posting the times on our live chat caused much speculation. We learned about delayed incubation from devoted watcher and chatter, rye bird. Ty rye. We wait for hatching and wonder how we could have misread
