πŸ”΄ M7.7 PANAMA EARTHQUAKE β€” LIVE: the mainshock and every aftershock on the map, in real time.

Magnitude 7.7 earthquake on October 9, 2026 at 17:56 UTC, 12 km WSW of Pitaloza Arriba, Panama, 13 km deep (USGS). USGS PAGER alert: red.

On screen: each aftershock as seismic agencies publish it (USGS, EMSC, GEOFON and more), the count since the mainshock, and the tsunami threat status from PTWC, with its time.

πŸ’¬ Ask in the chat about any Panama quake or aftershock: the bot answers with live data.

Nine seismic agencies and 333 of our own seismometers on one map. A quake shows up here before any newsroom has it.

Every earthquake on the planet, as it gets published. No cuts, no host, and not a single figure typed by hand: everything you see comes from data that arrives on its own.

β–¬β–¬ WHAT YOU ARE WATCHING β–¬β–¬

The map travels the world and stops where the ground just moved. The expanding circles are the real waves propagating: P at 6.0 km/s, S at 3.5 km/s, surface at 3.0 km/s. If the quake is yours, the ring crosses your city exactly when you feel it.

Each quake is drawn in the colour of the agency that published it. Top right you get those same sources with their real latency in seconds, so at any moment you know whether a region's silence is calm or a source that went down.

β–¬β–¬ THE NINE SOURCES β–¬β–¬

β€’ USGS β€” United States Geological Survey
β€’ EMSC β€” Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (over websocket, arrives first)
β€’ GEOFON / GFZ β€” German Research Centre for Geosciences
β€’ BMKG β€” Indonesia's agency
β€’ PTWC β€” Pacific Tsunami Warning Center
β€’ JMA EEW β€” Japan's earthquake early warning
β€’ CENC EEW β€” China's early warning
β€’ Sichuan EEW β€” Sichuan warning network
β€’ p2pquake β€” Japanese alert network

And a tenth that is not an agency: OUR OWN DETECTION.

β–¬β–¬ HOW IT WORKS INSIDE β–¬β–¬

1. FUSION. The same earthquake gets published by several agencies with epicentres and magnitudes that disagree. We don't pick one and bin the rest: they're grouped by closeness in time and distance, and the card shows every solution at once. You'll see "USGS M5.6 Β· 65 km" next to "GEOFON M5.5 Β· 10 km" for one quake, because that disagreement is information, not a bug.

2. PRELIMINARY β†’ CONFIRMED. A Japanese early warning arrives before any catalogue, but it can be revised or cancelled. It enters as a FORECAST, with the magnitude marked by a tilde (~M6.2) because it is still an estimate, and only becomes confirmed

This continuous seismic monitoring stream from PlotPoint displays real-time earthquake data and aftershock activity following the major M7.7 Panama event. The live map visualizes seismic wave propagation across the region and aggregates data from nine international seismological agencies simultaneously, providing the most current information available as soon as data is published by monitoring networks worldwide.
