Live Sea Otter Cam | Monterey Bay Aquarium

Enjoy the antics of our rescued southern sea otters as they romp, tumble, and wrestle. The southern sea otters in our Sea Otters exhibit love to play with toys, lounge in ice buckets, or just snooze. We feed our otters several times a day, often putting the food in toys to encourage the otters' natural behavior of pounding and working to get food out of shells. Our aquarists also teach the otters behaviors, like holding a target with their paws or walking onto a scale. Training keeps our sea otters mentally and physically stimulated—it also makes working with the sea otters safer for us and less stressful for them.

Scheduled feedings: 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Pacific time.

We give each of our otters regular breaks behind the scenes. Sometimes they're working as a companion or surrogate with our Sea Otter Program; sometimes they're just getting a chance to enjoy live food they don't get on exhibit. Not to worry—they'll be back to join their gal pals soon!

These female sea otters are all rescued and non-releasable to the wild due to health or behavioral reasons. They play an important role for their species at the Aquarium, not only as ambassadors to otter-kind for our guests, but also as surrogate mothers for stranded sea otter pups.
