Ryde Pier Live – Solent & Island Line Railway

Watch Ryde Pier live from our webcam at Denbigh House Dental Surgery, overlooking the second-longest seaside pier in the UK. Enjoy daily views across the Solent, including the Island Line train service and Wightlink foot passenger ferries to Portsmouth.

Ryde Pier first opened in 1814 as a wooden structure and extended to its current length of nearly half a mile by 1842. It's actually three piers in one:

A horse-drawn tramway pier (1864)

A double-track railway pier for mainland connections (1880)

The promenade pier for pedestrians

The pier remains a hub of activity, from historic rail lines now served by 1930s London Underground trains to ferry services across the Solent. The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is also working to restore one of the original trams, Car No.2, acquired in 1969.

This live camera captures one of the UK's most iconic maritime landmarks in continuous operation, offering views of active passenger and freight rail services alongside working ferry terminals—a unique vantage point onto Victorian engineering and modern island transport.
